Every Bitter Thing Tastes Sweet

Physical hunger can distort our judgment, making us reach for whatever promises to satisfy us quickly—even when it offers little nourishment. Spiritual hunger can do the same.

When we go too long without God’s Word, sin, unhealthy habits, and temporary comforts may begin to taste sweet—not because they are good, but because we are empty. Proverbs 27:7 reminds us that “to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.”

We must nourish both body and soul with what is truly good, allowing God’s Word to fill the places that temporary satisfaction never can.

Reconsidering Eve’s Story

For most of my life, the story of Eve made me feel defeated—as though being a woman meant being weaker, lesser or somehow responsible for humanity’s brokenness.

But Eve’s failure was not proof that women are uniquely weak. It was proof that every human being needs a Savior.

And in the very place where the enemy appeared to win, God announced his defeat.

The woman was deceived, but she was not discarded. Her failure did not have the final word—God’s promise did.
